Growth in the 1980s: truck fleet expands – waterway transport gains in importance

1981: First steps are taken towards providing outsourced services. Baumann and its workforce supply the lignite unloading station of Bonn’s municipal utility company. They supply the power station at weekends and on public holidays.

1983:  The Baumann company moves into new business premises in Bonn-Buschdorf. Its fleet simultaneously grows to a size of 50 own vehicles. The owner’s eldest son, Helmut Baumann, joins the family company in the third generation.

1987:  Baumann becomes the freight expediter of the fireproof products manufacturer Didier AG for nine of its German production sites. This marks the company’s next step into the international freight forwarding business. Baumann organises transport chains for the raw material inputs from around the world to the plants via all conceivable transport routes. The company’s oceangoing and inland waterway activities are increased. The harbour transshipment process is also organised and handled by Baumann.

New business fields in the 1990s: container rentals

1990:  The container is increasingly gaining significance as a transportation box in international freight forwarding. Baumann is quick to recognise the versatility of the modular and mobile room systems. It placed disused sea containers as storage or material boxes on its own business sites, on building sites, and on customer sites. See container rentals and sales quickly become an important pillar of the company’s business. The range of containers is supplemented by office units, social room units, and sanitary units.
